Labstep's Permission System has been redesigned from the bottom up on the backend to be more robust and give users even more control over what actions they can perform in their workspaces. As of this week, you will notice a few changes:

  1. We have separated the permissions for Experiments and Experiment Templates to give owners more control over who can create and edit templates.
  2. Similarly, we now have a separate section in permissions for Device Categories.
  3. Additional permissions settings for controlling the ability to add/remove experiments and protocols from Collections and add/remove tags.
  4. A new separate permission for controlling who can create/edit Jupyter Notebooks embedded in Experiments / Protocols.
  5. Permissions for editing items now depend on whether you have edit permission on the Resource.

However, the main benefit of the upgrade is its solid foundation for future improvements. So, if you have requests for improvements to the permission system, please let the team know!
