[App] Control Which Family Members Are Included in Classroom Target Lists

Overview You can now filter classroom-connected target lists by specific family identity types! This lets you exclude emergency contacts or other family members who shouldn't receive regular classroom communications.

Precise family member targeting Many schools designate certain family members (like Guardians) as emergency contacts only, not for regular classroom communication. Now when you create classroom-connected target lists, you can specify exactly which types of family members to include - like only Parents and Relatives, but not Guardians.

Updated family terminology We've updated the relationship mode options for consistency:

• "Include Family" (previously "Include Parents") - includes teachers, students, and their related family members
• "Only Family" (previously "Only Parents") - includes only the related family members of students

How it works When you select "Include Family" or "Only Family" as your relationship mode for classroom-connected target lists, you'll now see a new "Include Family Types" filter where you can select specific identity types like:

• Parent
• Guardian
• Relative
• Aide
• And other family identity types in your system

Flexible filtering options

• Leave empty: Includes all family types (this is the default and matches how it worked before)
• Select specific types: Choose one or more identity types to include only those family members

Perfect for common scenarios

• Exclude emergency contacts: Don't include Guardians designated for emergencies only
• Target primary contacts: Include only Parents for regular classroom updates
• Include extended family: Add Relatives for certain classroom communications
• Customize per classroom: Different classrooms can have different family type settings

Existing classrooms unchanged All your existing classroom-connected target lists will continue working exactly as before - they default to including all family types unless you choose to add filtering.

This gives you precise control over classroom communications, ensuring messages reach the right family members while respecting emergency contact designations and communication preferences.
