Overview You now have more control over how hall passes work at your school! Lock expiry times to specific reasons and set a default reason, so students can't extend their time or pick an unclear reason to bypass limits.
Why this matters Some schools found students selecting a vague reason (like "Other") to give themselves more time out of class, or adjusting the expiry time to stay out longer than intended. These new settings close both gaps.
What's new
Lock the expiry time to a reason: For any hall pass reason, you can now lock the expiry time so it can't be changed when that reason is selected. For example, lock "Restroom" to 5 minutes so students can't extend it.
Set a default reason: Choose one reason to be the default option that's pre-selected wherever a hall pass is created, in the Dashboard and in the mobile app. This makes it easy to steer students toward your most common, well-defined reason instead of an open-ended one.
"Other" is no longer built in: Previously, every school had a hardcoded "Other" option that couldn't be removed. Now "Other" is just a standard reason added when your site is set up, so you're free to edit, lock, or remove it just like any other reason.
How to set it up
Perfect for schools that want to
This gives you tighter, more predictable control over hall pass usage without adding complexity to how passes are created.
